Domestic Cleaning Tips – Cleaning After The Christmas Holidays

Christmas holiday is the most expected time of the year for children and adults. It symbolises hope for the future, family happiness, cosy home, and endless love. Perhaps you and your family put a lot of effort into preparing the whole house for the holidays at the end of the year. After the parties are over, however, it is time to turn your home back into its natural look and for that, we need to perform some cleaning after Christmas.

If you want to start the new year fresh, it is time to begin cleaning after the Christmas holiday.

1. Start with stripping the Christmas tree.

Now it is time to remove and store all decorations in one big box. Place the heaviest decoration on the bottom of the box. Be careful with the ornaments that are made of glass. Wrap each one separately. You can use wrapping or tissue paper. Put them on top and store the box for the next year. Throw away all paper decorations that are already crumpled such as paper stars or paper streamers. Remove all Christmas lights and pack them safely without tangling, so you will be able to use them again. After gathering all ornaments, it is time for the tree. If you have an artificial Christmas tree, you can wrap it in cloth or store it in a separate box and leave it in your storeroom. Whatever you choose, you need to cover it properly to avoid the accumulation of dust. Ask your children to take part in storing the ornaments. In that way, you can turn this not-so-pleasant part into fun.

2. Clean your carpets and floors.

Most likely, you will spot some stains on your carpets. Drinking red wine and champagne during holidays may end with stubborn stains. If you want to remove them, you should apply a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid immediately. You can use a carpet cleaner, too. If the stain is specific or is left for a longer time and you cannot remove it, it is better not to take chances with common cleaners. Call a professional company to wash your carpets.

Sweep up all trifles, left from the celebration. Mop floors using a mixture of warm water and floor cleaner. Allow them to dry.

3. Organise your kitchen.

Certainly, you have prepared a lot of delicious meals and you have taken out all your Christmas plates and sets for the holidays. After the wonderful celebration, though, you are left only with nice memories and many dirty dishes. Even if you wash most of them in a dishwashing machine, you need to separate the special ones, which are fragile. Wash them by hand. Store your Christmas sets for next year. Pay special attention to your oven, where all that Christmas cooking has taken place. Do not forget to put on some cleaning gloves because oven cleaners may be harsh for your skin.

After you take down all decorations and clean your home, you will be surprised at how much extra space you have now. So, enjoy that moment when you can relax in front of the fireplace and start your new year fresh with harmony and hope!
